"HOW DO YOU SAY ...?"
In the car try this little game instead of playing "I Spy".
Say "How do you say xxxxx in your LOTE language". For example in Italian you would say "Come si dice park in Italiano?" and the answer would be "il parco".
"KEEP SCORE"
With older children, say 8 years or above, keep a score card. Kids love competiition. So start a game between yourself and your child where everytime you say a word or phrase in your LOTE and your child doesn’t understand it or asks "what did you say" then you get a point or if your Child says a word or a phrase in your LOTE and you don't understand it or have to ask "what did you say" then your Child gets a point.
At the end of the week add up your points and the one with the least points gets a treat.
INTRODUCE "LOTE TUESDAYS"
Introduce every Tuesday of the week as your LOTE Language day. This means that every Tuesday you have to try and only speak your LOTE Language at home, no English!
